Surrounded by a moat. In the 13th century a keep, 150ft in diameter, was built upon the motte. Other stone additions were also made, including towers and gateway. Attacked in 1263, 1334, 1462, and 1544. Damaged by Cromwell in the 1650's. Burned in 1685. Rebuilt in 1816.
